REVERSE AUCTION

The MNS Reverse Auction is a way in which everyone can contribute towards a major program or capital improvement which will enrich every grade at PS 290. The Reverse Auction bids are eligible for matching gifts from select employers.

This year your contributions will fund a Theater Program for MNS students, described below.

Vital Voices: Art in Education Program, a part of the Vital Theatre Company, has designed a theatre arts program for the entire school. The number of sessions per grade will range from 6-12. The program will address grade-appropriate Common Core State Standards for Literacy in reading, writing, speaking and listening for all grades as well as Common Core State Standards for Mathematics for fourth and fifth grades.

Kindergarten: “Storybook Favorites" explores sound, movement, and storytelling, while introducing students to basic theatre skills and vocabulary. A Vital Teaching Artist will lead students in an exploration of theatre skills through Creative Play, Storytelling, Pantomime and Improvisation connecting their theatrical work to Reading, and Literacy.

First Grade: “Realistic Fiction" explores the same story from two different cultures. Drawing on Social Studies lessons, A Vital Teaching Artist will lead students in an exploration of more advanced theatre skills through Storytelling, Pantomime, Culturally Specific Dance and Music, connecting their theatrical work to their Social Studies work selected by classroom teachers.

Second Grade: "Two Stories, Two Cultures-Song and Dance" Vital explores the same story from two different cultures. Drawing on Social Studies lessons, A Vital Teaching Artist will lead students in an exploration of more advanced theatre skills through Storytelling, Pantomime, Culturally Specific Dance and Music, connecting their theatrical work to their Social Studies work selected by classroom teachers.

Third Grade: “Create Your Own Vital Show" allows students to explore playwriting by using a book that a Vital show is based on as a base to create their own original scripts. A Vital Teaching Artist will lead students in an exploration of playwriting, rehearsal and in class performance for buddy classes. The 3rd Grade will also travel to Vital, where they will see an original Vital show and have a Question and Answer session with the Creative team and cast.

Fourth Grade: “Theatrical Design and Technical Theatre" allows students to explore set, costume, lighting and sound design. A Vital Teaching Artist will lead students in an exploration of Theatrical Design. The 4th Grade will also travel to Vital where they will see a Technical Theatre rehearsal and have Question and Answer session with the Creative Team and Designers.

Fifth grade: “Playwriting, Design, and Performance" a program that allows students to explore playwriting, design and performance by linking to a Social Studies theme and creating a performance exploring the theme. Each group will be divided into two groups through students selection—one Design and one Performance. The 5th Grade will perform for an audience of siblings, peers, parents and friends at a school auditorium or at Vital’s professional theatre.
