Compassionate Action's founder Jill Satterfield lived with chronic pain and illness for 15 years. After many surgeries she was told the remaining pain was all in her mind - so she began to work with her mind. Ultimately Jill found that both yoga and meditation healed her beyond what she'd ever expected.
The School for Compassionate Action is a group of highly skilled yoga and meditation teachers, clinical psychologists and contemplative Buddhist psychotherapists utilizing the awareness practices of yoga and mindfulness meditation to assist those suffering from profound physical and emotional challenges.
The school serves as both a professional training, and an organization that offers skilled teachers to work with at-risk youth, people living with PTSD, chronic pain and illness and those in recovery from addictions. SCA strongly supports being prepared - mentally, physically and emotionally in order to best serve the populations it works with.
SCA teaches where the need exists – in hospitals, rehab centers, schools, half way houses and detention centers. With a home base in New York City, SCA provides trainings in Burlington Vermont, Washington D.C., and San Francisco.
Their focus is on:
- Youth Action – empowering and educating at-risk youth
- Health Action – to help people living in chronic pain and with illnesses
- Addiction Action – working with those in recovery from alcohol, drugs and eating disorders.
- Trauma Action – assistance to those locally affected by the 9/11 and anyone coping with PTSD, physically and emotionally.
