Driving Miss Daisy: Description
Alfred Uhry's classic play, Driving Miss Daisy is a timeless, searing, funny, and ultimately hopeful meditation on race relations in America, told through the complex relationship between two of popular culture's most enduring characters. When Daisy Werthan (Vanessa Redgrave), a widowed, 72-year-old Jewish woman living in midcentury Atlanta, is deemed too old to drive, her son hires Hoke Colburn (James Earl Jones), an African American man, to serve as her chauffeur. What begins as a troubled and hostile pairing, soon blossoms into a profound, life-altering friendship that transcends all the societal boundaries placed between them.
Driving Miss Daisy has finally arrived on Broadway. Originally an Off-Broadway play in 1987 took the most coveted Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1988 and eventually adapted to a film and won 4 out of 9 nominations of the 1990 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Makeup and Best Actress.
