Item Description

James Mangano shapes the K58 Surfboards.  He grew up in Southern California and has always been drawn to the water. His goal is to create a better world for those around him by making the best boards that he can and creating art work that makes them unique and allows them to stand alone outside the main stream.

Art has always been a major focus for James and it came natural to him.  K58 was his dream since 2003. The name signifies a surf spot 58 kilometers south of the border.

The board is signed by legendary surfer Peter Townend (PT), considered to be one of the best surfers in the world in the 70's and 80's.

Townend began surfing in 1967 and surfed his first competition in 1969. He was already shaping boards, doing promotionals for Gordon and Smith and working as a UPI journalist for the Sydney Daily Mirror. At the Australian National Titles, he took 2nd in the juniors division in 1971 and then 2nd in the men’s division in 1972, 73, 74, and 76. He later made history when at 23 years old he became the 1976 IPS World Surfing Champion. In 1977, Peter rodes waves as William Kat's stunt double in the surf movid 'Big Wednesday.'  He won back-to-back IPS 5th place finishes in 1978 and 1979, when he also took first place in the Hang Ten contest in Durban, South Africa.
