Thoughts on Runaway Train from author, Malea Grubb:  "I developed an early appetite for literature (most likely resulting from my extreme shyness) and read voraciously throughout most of my childhood. In no time at all, my love for the written word led me to start writing myself.  Though I enjoy all forms of writing, I think the primary reason that I find poetry so stimulating is that it shares much with the art of ballet, which is of course my other passion. Both ballet and poetry rely heavily on attention to aesthetic value, detail, rhythm (music!), and subtlety. In addition, like ballet, poetry is often widely open to interpretation. Perhaps most significantly, poetry (like ballet) is a form of self-expression that is quite liberating for a person who finds it difficult to converse in the normal fashion."

Runaway Train is a poetry collection (published in April 2011 by Altus Publishing©) that uses the metaphor of an endless train (on infinite track) to describe the nature of life and the human existence. The first poem from which the book gets its title, Runaway Train, is a short metrical poem that succinctly attempts to describe this metaphor. The remaining four sections of the book are categorized by the different facets of a single individual’s life: hardship, pleasure, interpersonal relationships, and the progression towards maturity.

Malea is a member of the Corps de Ballet in the Carolina Ballet Company.  This specially inscribed copy of Runaway Train is a priceless item sure to be a jewel in any book or ballet lovers collection.
