Item Description
Tinplate (thin sheets of steel plated with tin) was used to make toys between the mid-1800s until World War II, reaching its heights in the US in the 1920s.
They were a cheap and durable substitute for wooden and cast iron toys and predated now-ubiquitous plastic toys that emerged in the 1950s and 60s.
