Item Description
In 1912, when George M. Cohan starred in his celebrated hit Forty-Five Minutes From Broadway, the best shoes in town were handmade by Anton Nihleen at Nihleen Boot Maker in a small workshop on the first floor of a brownstone at 30 W. 47th Street. In their original box – addressed to Mr. Cohan’s home at 993 Fifth Avenue – and in near-perfect condition with their original laces, we present a pair of fine leather, high-laced formal boots worn by "Mr. Broadway" himself.
On opening night in 1968, when Tony Award-winner Joel Grey starred at the Palace Theatre in the musical GEORGE M!, Georgette Cohan, George M.’s daughter, presented Grey with the dancing man’s original footwear as a special gift for good luck.
Take home George M. Cohan’s extraordinary 1912 dancing shoes and a GEORGE M! poster signed by "George M." himself, Tony Award-winning star Joel Grey.
Courtesy of Joel Grey and a salute to George M. Cohan and his daughter, Georgette
