Item Special Note
Thoughts: “This sculpture used plaster strips molded over the plastic form that was given to the artist. I used plaster strips because they make me think of how fragile life is. Plaster strips are used in casts and to correct problems. When I removed the hardened strips, I had a thin shell of sculpture that is fragile yet retains its form well. I used sharpies to tangle patterns after using gesso over the plaster to seal it. The many tangle patterns point to the complex beauty of a person, not just the fragility. I used only a little color in places with watercolor and color pencil to suggest memories and life. In some places, I added black and pearl puff paint to add texture. Using a piece of black novelty yarn, I encircled the sculpture to soften it.”
