Item Description
One Semester-long workshop, or one week-long half-day workshop. Writopia Lab is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that offers creative writing workshops for students ages 6 to 18. Our workshops have a maximum of seven students each and are all led by a published writer or well-produced playwright. For the last four years, more students from Writopia Lab have won recognition both regionally and nationally in the Scholastic Art & Writing awards than from any other school in the nation. At the beginning of a workshop, each student chooses to write in the genre of his or her choice for the week (i.e. humor, realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, memoir, poetry, scripts, or journalism). Teens usually focus on completing one piece over the week; our younger writers sometimes write several stories. Sessions are filled with brainstorming, writing, and workshopping-- and are peppered with fun and productive writing games. Our Manhattan fall, winter, and spring workshops meet weekly for 10 1.5 hour after school or weekend sessions. Summer writing workshops and holiday intensives meet five days in a row for three-hour sessions.
