We offer performance based classes in musical theatre. The children are cast in, rehearse, and perform an original musical written by professional writers and composers. They perform for a packed audience at the Brooklyn Music School’s Playhouse, a beautiful, 266 seat, 100 year old Spanish-style theatre in the heart of the BAM cultural district.

Brooklyn Children’s Theatre is an after school musical theatre program for children in 1st-12th grades. We offer performance driven classes where children are cast in and rehearse a musical play. We believe that many skills are gained from learning theatre for performance. Not only are children learning skills in acting, singing, and dancing; but they are also learning life lessons such as risk-taking, teamwork, punctuality, and accountability. Over the course of a session, we see children become more confident, try new things, make huge leaps in the development of their talents, and best of all, build a strong community of friendships.
Our plays are structured to feature each child to the best of their ability. We choose material and create pieces where each child gets their own moment to shine. The shiest of kids gets a chance to come into their own as a performer, and the most confident of kids learns to share the stage with their peers.
The end of session performance gives the children a chance to perform for their community. They invite teachers, classmates, loved ones, and friends. The electricity in the air from their live show stays with them for months to come and makes them feel special in a way that only theatre can.
