About the Artist:
My inspiration for EllenL designs comes from that source both constant and ever changing – my friends. I have always loved being with friends, both old and new. I love to surround myself with people who are constantly stimulating me in so many ways. My family and old friends provide me with love, happiness, laughter and a sense of the familiar qualities which are depicted in my work’s bold colors and strong stones. Newer friends naturally spark my curiosity and inquisitiveness, reflected in some of the designs that part from traditions to convey a sense of the new and untried. Every piece I create is designed for someoneI know in mind.
My story is still very young. After high school, I traveled to Sewanee for college, meeting a collection of friends I’ll have all my life. Upon graduation, I moved to Los Angeles where I apprenticed under jewelry designers Melinda Maria and Chan Luu.
While in L.A., I also studied various techniques of design at UCLA. After California, I moved to South Carolina where I spent valuable time apprenticing for my remarkable aunt, Melanie Mauldin, and her expanding fashion jewelry business, Handpicked. Today I’m back home in New Orleans, doing this work I love.
With all the knowledge acquired from these fresh experiences, as well as an urge to explore my creativity, EllenL became a second nature expression of my chosen path. EllenL exudes my ideas of fun, fashion and friendship. When I create a piece, I think of the woman who will soon wear it: confident, fun-loving, maybe a bit risk-taking, always bold to express herself in her own unique style and personality!
