Item Description

A Neuropsychological or Psychoeducational Evaluation assesses
your child’s functioning in all areas. These areas include general cognitive functioning, language processing (including receptive and expressive language and auditory processing),  visual-perceptual processing, fine motor processing, attentional and executive functioning, pre-academic and academic functioning and emotional/behavioral functioning.

For parents who may be worried that their child is not functioning at the level of peers or may have difficulty in any of these areas, an evaluation can specify where the problem is, where the strengths are, and what supports the child may need either in school or at
home. It can determine the existence of learning disabilities. Attention
Deficit Disorder or developmental delays. It can help to decide on an
appropriate educational setting and provide documentation that can be used to support your case for funding of any specialists or schools with the Board of Education.  Most importantly, it can provide a road-map that will help you to be your child’s best advocate.

A full evaluation requires two meetings with parents (or parent) followed by four 2 hour sessions with your child.  During the first session with parents (or parent), Dr. Taylor will take a full history, ask for your concerns and views, and give you forms for you and for your child’s teacher so that she can get multiple perspectives of your child in different settings. The four two hour sessions with your child includes tests which vary in length, structure, and degree of independence and sustained attention required. Dr. Taylor  scores and writes the report (another five hours) and then meets with parents (or parent) to discuss results, recommendations, and whatever responses parents may have.  The entire evaluation (including writing and
scoring) takes about fifteen hours.

The regular cost for this services is $4000.  It is being auctioned in order to support your wonderful school and its children.

Dr. Taylor received her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology in 1985 from the Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi  and was licensed in 1987.  She has done Neuropsychological and
Psychoeducational Evaluations since that time. Dr. Taylor received a
post-doctoral certificate in psychotherapy from NYU and is trained to work with children and adults.  She was the psychologist at the Churchill School for children with learning disabilities
from 1985-1987 and senior Child Psychologist at Lenox Hill Hospital from 1987-1991.  She supervised psychologists at the Churchill School from 1985-1990 and supervised graduate students and
interns at City University, Adelphi University, and Yeshiva University.

Dr. Taylor loves children and has five grandchildren.  One grandchild is a second grader at Arts and Letters. Another grandchild will be in the kindergarten at Arts and Letters in the Fall.

For parents who are unsure whether their child needs an evaluation,  a consultation may be helpful.
