Item Description

You are bidding on Two tickets to California Theatre Center's Summer Rep 2013 in Sunnyvale.  This season's productions include:

"Dangerous Corner" by J.B. Priestly

A group of posh Brits sequestered together in a cozy, country retreat - lies, betrayals and dramatic disclosures abound!

In this play of psychological intrigue, Freda and Robert Caplan host a dinner party for their young, beautiful and successful colleagues and friends - all executives at a transatlantic publishing company. The members of this gathering truly have the world at their feet! Then a musical cigarette box and an ill-considered remark spark a relentless series of revelations, and other, more dangerous secrets are painfully exposed. Was it better not to pry into matters that should be left alone? As the truth spills out about the suicide of Robert's clever, reckless brother Martin, and the group's perfect lives begin to crumble, the steep cost of professional and social success becomes frighteningly plain.

“Time, history and memory all intertwined with desire, repulsion, deception and hypocrisy quickly surface
as features within Priestley’s play define his characters’ relationships, their actions and their world....” - New York Times

"Lost in Hollywood" by Gayle Cornelison

Quirky characters, upbeat songs and the often hilarious growing pains of a new and burgeoning industry!

Return to a time when life was simpler, but when Hollywood was becoming the world’s undisputed movie capital of the world. The toasts of Hollywood ranged from the elegant Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to the giant mechanical ape King Kong! Follow the adventures of Richard Nelson, a would-be movie actor delighted to have his “big break” with a new movie studio. He soon discovers that his path to fame will be challenging, that the script is not likely to win any awards and that his director has never directed anything - much less a major motion picture. And, to top it off, his co-stars have more ego than talent, and the camera operator is brand new to movie-making! Is he discouraged? Actors must be optimistic, and Richard is certain that he can act and sing his way to stardom - no matter the vehicle!

“Hollywood in the thirties....a lost time of innocence, of seat-of-the-pants movie-making, of ramshackle sound stages,
and of unsophisticated technology, but the beginning of America’s love affair with film and
those fascinating people who created these timeless pieces of celluloid, as well as those who starred in them!” - Gayle Cornelison

"The Women" by Clare Boothe Luce

A cast of CTC alumnae actresses return in the revival of a play you can really sink your nails into!

Clare Boothe Luce’s social satire and all-woman show was a smash hit when first performed on Broadway in 1936 and then in 1939 in the film version with Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell - a formidable cast indeed! Centered on a group of gossipy, high-society women in Manhattan who spend their days playing bridge, discussing intrigues at the beauty salon and haunting fashion shows, the idealistic, happily-wedded Mary Haines finds her marriage in trouble when flirtatious, manipulative shop girl Crystal Allen gets her hooks into Mary’s man. Aided and abetted by her friends, a host of colorful characters who have romantic problems of their own, the play touches on themes relevant today - marriage and divorce, socioeconomic class, female friendship, standards of beauty and the role of the woman in the modern world. After all, it was the playwright of The Women who said, “I refuse the compliment that I think like a man; thought has no sex; one either thinks or one does not.”

“The script is wicked, mercilessly funny, fast paced, razor sharp and filled with such memorable invective
that you’ll be quoting it for weeks and months afterward.”  - Fine Arts Center, Colorado Springs

California Theatre Center was founded in 1976 with the purposes of creating quality theatrical experiences for youth and families; instilling an early appreciation of literature and the fine arts in tomorrow's artists and citizens; and providing outstanding educational opportunities and training in the theatre arts.
