Item Description

Archival quality print of an original oil painting called "Wellfleet Painter.” The 20"x16" reproduction is printed on a canvas material and mounted on wood stretchers.

The original painting was inspired by a photographic image of a friend joining the artist, Marcia Cooper, for an afternoon of painting in the warmth of the sun at a beautiful beach.

Marcia Cooper first became inspired to be a painter while preparing to become an art teacher in college. Studio classes at Boston University reinforced a desire to focus on painting, and since that time, her work has been enriched by additional study with Boston area artists.

The painting process gives her limitless opportunities to represent the playful rhythms of forms that exist in landscape and portrait. Whether viewing a landscape on site or from a place where her imagination takes her, the most appealing qualities of a scene are interpreted and brought to a new level of understanding within each painting. Often times, the intention is to convey a sense of well being, an upbeat feeling or a bit of whimsy from an ordinary moment. With a compelling idea as a starting point, she feels at ease working in a style that weaves the flow of colors and shapes of the subject matter into a cohesive composition.

Marcia Cooper studied fine arts in a graduate degree program at Boston University.  Her work has been shown at the Danforth Museum “Off the Wall” Exhibit in 2011, the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, Newton Art Association exhibits, Newton Open Studios, Holliston Mills Open Studios, Proctor Inn, and is currently being shown at the Luckart Gallery in Auburndale, Massachusetts. A one-person show of her paintings is scheduled to be held at the Acton Public Library in Acton, MA in November/December 2013.
