About the Artist: Elia Kahvedjian was born in Ourfa, Turkey in 1910. A refugee of the Armenian genocide, Elia is known as one of the greatest photographers in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 20th century. His photos, which had been hidden away for 40 years, were rediscovered 26 years ago. Elia Kahvedjian died in Jerusalem in 1999, but his shop, Elia Photo Service, continues to thrive thanks to his son and grandson. The shop is located in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem.
