Item Description
This image of the great jazz artist, Louis Armstrong, was photographed in 1941 in St. Louis by the noted aerial photographer and book publisher of the "Above" book series, Robert Cameron. Mr. Cameron was a personal friend of Mr. Armstrong and he was given access to the stage where this performance was given!
Made with a 4" x 5" press camera equipped with a slow burning flash bulb, common at the time, Louis Armstrong told Bob (when give an 8" x 10" print from the negative) "This is the best picture ever taken of me actually playing. All the other just have me holding up the trumpet to my lips."
This print is made on 20" x 24" resin coated Ilford Gallaria paper and it has been treated with selenium toner insuring that the photograph will last well over 100 years.
This is one of 40 prints and it is signed by Robert Cameron.
