Item Description
Halibut Point State Park, Rockport, MA
Come and learn what lives in the intertidal areas of a rocky coastline. Pass by the old quarry where granite blocks were cut and shipped to all corners of the country. Clamber on the granite slabs that lead down to the waterline at the northern tip of Cape Ann, where panoramic vistas include views of Crane’s Beach in Ipswich, the New Hampshire coastline, and occasionally the Isle of Shoals in Maine.
Turn your attention to what is underfoot and learn how to spot the favorite hiding places of crabs, find out how snails, barnacles, and starfish eat, and hear about how early settlers used the local seaweeds, and other tales of the natural history that makes Halibut Point so unique. Finish off the afternoon with a picnic lunch on the rocks or at the park visitor’s center, provided by your host.
Date and Time: TBD (low tide required) - good through 9/1/2015
