Item Description
The Big Purple Barn was built on a love for historical remnants, as well as the repurposing of those and other interesting materials. This has led Mr. Haines, owner and artist behind The Barn, to develop a reliable small-scale method of reusing glass from almost any source. In addition, Mr. Haines has experimented extensively with natural materials and the various ways to mix them into recycled glass. The resulting pieces are known as Archival Glassworks, and they are magnificently unique miniature works of art.
The Barn has built up a library of glass in a variety of colors, as well as a few with interesting provenances; the side-rear window from a 1940's sedan, a number of telegraph pole insulators, the window of an MIT professor's door, the window of a crumbling brick house in the woods of Virginia, and more. This is the real beauty behind Archival glasswork - the story, the history.
The winner of this particular item will have an Archival piece custom made using any materials from The Big Purple Barn's library of Modern and Antique sources. The winner may also choose to send their own glass for the piece, in order to have something more personal made. Natural inclusions can readily be done using natural materials such as soil from a beloved garden, shavings of a twig from a childhood home, sand from the beach where you were married, etc.
The piece can be a worry stone, Honey Stone, bead or marble. All details will be finalized between the highest bidder and Mr. Haines following the auction.
Item Special Note
Some natural materials cannot be mixed into beads, though the majority of glass-friendly materials are capable.
