Artist Statement: I suppose I am largely influenced by the vast forests & mountains of my childhood. There, where woodland creatures vastly outnumber human creatures, the connection with the world is felt much differently than it is here, in the city. The portraits & personalities that take shape under my pen & paintbrush evoke (in me, at the very least) a sense of nostalgia, not just for my youth, but of a commonality-- of universally shared emotional spaces & fondly remembered narratives. This is what I love best: the role of the artist as storyteller- & the potential for the image to tell just a part of the story, one line from the song, or to depict every song, poem & tale ever shared. I tell stories in a variety of water-based media, including watercolor, gouache, ink & Acrylics. My favorite surface is tea-toned Paper & I favor the tiniest of teeny-tiny brushes.
