Artist Statement: In 1944, I & another Cub Scout learned to draw by tracing pictures of fighter planes & bathing beauties from popular magazines. Adolescent longing for excitement & pretty girls continued to nourish my graphic bent. Im finished with fighter planes but pretty girls still delight me & I continue to trace & copy. However, I now strive to fashion a visual idiom where design governs, yet cuteness lingers. I like the simplicity of pencil on Paper. Sometimes with a touch of color. Each drawing should look easily accomplished despite that my getting it right was earnest work. I am inspired by photographs I find in newspapers, magazines, library books & on the Internet. Life is too quick for my wondering eye. I was raised in & around Detroit, Michigan, quit my orthodontist before my teeth were straight, dropped out of high school, spent four years in the Coast Guard, four more in college & have lived in San Francisco since 1964.
