Artist Statement: Catherine Herrera creates photos imbued with a touch of the traditional, a twist of now. Like a musician, Catherine Herrera trains her eye on a range of subjects, serving each projects unique needs, creating an uplifting and rewarding art experience for each collector, interior space, and, for the viewing public. Catherine started out as a photojournalist, having gained an appreciation and love of photography and the darkroom process from her father, who continues to this day to take photos, as does her son. Catherine Herrera has exhibited and in the United States and Mexico, with work exhibited in San Francisco in The Americans exhibit in 2014. Catherines photography has been published, commissioned as book art for writers, and published, with photo spreads in The Potrero View in 2014. Catherine is completing a photography book, Landless Indian, an in-depth photography series on Ohlone Cultural Revitalization, with writing and images sharing her own discovery about her family. The series has developed over 15 years after returning to the Bay Area from Mexico City, where Catherine worked as a photojournalist and magazine photographer. A Fulbright scholar to Mexico, Catherine Herrera expanded into news and documentary producing, and, eventually became a filmmaker in her own right. In 2012, Catherine was commissioned by the de Young Museum to create a video installation site-specific and interactive to the museum setting, and, Bridge Walkers is currently touring in 2015 as part of the Restoring a California Legacy exhibit.
