Item Description

“Gondolier Monkey” by Natalie Barr, grade 8, is acrylic paint on canvas.

This work celebrates the vibrancy of Oakland and spotlights the authentic gondola experience of Gondola Servizio.

Natalie wrote:  “I wanted to do something that was Oakland-themed, and what better than Lake Merritt!  I wanted to make the monkey look happy while doing something Oakland-themed.  I was trying to convey that Oakland is actually a fun place and to attract more people to our city.”

This was Natalie’s second win in the Monkey Project.

“It really means a lot to me that my hard work is rewarded and that I get to exhibit my work,” she added.

Note: you can get an authentic gondola cruise on Lake Merritt (with a human gondolier!) by bidding on our special Gondola Cruise package.
