Main Article Image

The 4th Annual Monkey Project Auction is now open. The auction will run from May 15, 2015 to May 22, 2015, with proceeds going to Oakland School for the Arts, School of Visual Art to continue offering our students the best art education they can get in a public charter school.

What is the Monkey Project?

The Monkey Project, started in 2010, is an annual collaboration between Visual Art at Oakland School for the Arts and Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café, both located in the historic Fox Theater in Downtown Oakland.  It’s a prestigious opportunity for middle and high school Visual Art students to have their work showcased in a popular restaurant.

Every spring, Visual Art students create monkey portraits following specific criteria.  The owners of Rudy’s select twelve of these portraits to be on display in the restaurant for a year.

At the end of a year, the art is auctioned off.  The process starts again with students creating new work and twelve new portraits being selected to be on display.
