Item Description

This gorgeous serigraph on paper titled ''Russian Dolls/Les Poupees Russes'' by Erte is a toast to his immense talent and fanciful depiction of fashion and the female form. Escape into the seaside room of the woman in the print as she examines her intricately dressed Russian dolls. Numbered 179/300 this print is framed in a very nice gold and silver metal-mixed frame and is double matted. The framed print measures 35.5'' tall x 26.5'' wide. The print is under glass and ready to hang and has been professionally appraised.

Both stylistically modern and compositionally classic, Erte's work (1892-1990) is revered around the world for its originality and thought provoking subject matter. Erte confounded expectation by creating his first successful costume design at the age of five and was finally allowed to move to Paris in 1912 to pursue his passion for fashion. Erte enjoyed a long career as a fashion illustrator for Harper's Bazaar magazine, and gained fame as the creator of gloriously extravagant costumes and stage sets for the Folies Bergere in Paris.
