Item Description
Numerous horse pendants very similar to this one have been found in Viking Age (Late Iron Age) sites in Latvia. They were most characteristic of the Livs. Livs are a Finno-Ugric rather than a Baltic people. They lived along the coast of Latvia and along major inland waterways such as the Daugava River, along which the Vikings sailed into Russia. There is much similarity between Liv and Viking artifacts because they were contemporaneous seafaring traders and craftspeople on opposite shores of the Baltic Sea. 38 x 76mm. All links on the pendant are soldered closed. Hand-crafted in sterling silver (.925). Comes with complementary 61cm (24") black deerskin (much softer and stronger than cowhide suesde) lace, linen pouch and polishing cloth.
Item Special Note
Hand-crafted based on archaeological sources by Andris Rutins;, WWS parent since 2001 (Zinta-2010, Guntis-2012, Ilga-2016).
