The Languedoc area of France, known for its great weather, historic sites and its huge wine industry, is the fastest growing area of the country. Consider getting to know this popular region from a stunning home base - a private home in a wine-growing village near Perpignan, just a 30-minute drive from the Mediterranean. Owned by Portland-based Alliance members Clara Steiner-Jay and her husband David, the spacious 3-bedroom home (sleeps 6) features a large pool and walled garden. Visit the towns and historic sites nearby, including Carcassonne, Narbonne, le Canal du Midi, Perpignan, les Châteaux Cathares, Lagrasse, l'Abbaye de Fontfroide, Céret, Collioure, Tautavel. Arrive by air (Toulouse or Barcelona) or by train (Narbonne or Perpignan). There are many walking, hiking and biking paths accessible from the house!

A recent visitor (from Oregon) to the home recommends it highly, "It is a lovely place, quiet, with a very nice fenced yard and pool, well furnished, a very well equipped kitchen, with a kind woman who welcomed us and made sure that we had everything we needed, knew where to find things, etc.; ideal in every way! ... Very comfortable for two couples or even two couples with children."

Note: This home rents for $900 to $1800 per week, depending on the season and the exchange rate with the euro; the reserve (minimum) sales price in this auction will be $1200 because the winner may select a week from any season (depending on availability). The owner generously donates 100% of the sales price to the nonprofit.
