Item Description

Myron Redford, one of Oregon's most distinguished wine pioneers, has been consistently recognized in the regional and national press as one of Oregon's top Pinot noir, Pinot blanc, Riesling and Gewurztraminer producers. He started his winery in 1976 and became the first US producer of true Gamay noir in 1988, from cuttings from France. Today Amity Vineyards remains the leader with this varietal. Myron produced Oregon's first sulfite free wine from organically grown grapes in 1990. In 1995, Myron was once again ahead of the curve, recognizing Oregon's potential to produce excellent Pinot blanc.

Myron has contributed to the development of the Oregon wine industry as a mentor to other winemakers, a member of the Oregon Wine Advisory Board for eight years and a past president of the Oregon Winegrowers Association. He is known for his generosity to our region's nonprofits, including his years-long participation in Portland's renowned Beaujolais Nouveau festival at the Heathman.

Myron and his wife Vikki generously donate this 6-year vertical of Amity Vineyard Gamay Noir - the six 750ml bottles include:

  • 2006 Gamay Noir - Eco Wine Organic
  • 2005 Gamay Noir - Reserve
  • 2005 Gamay Noir
  • 2004 Gamay Noir
  • 2002 Gamay Noir
  • 1998 Gamay Noir

In one of his many interviews over the years, Redford pointed out that, like Pinot Noir, Gamay also takes on interesting secondary aromas and depth in the palate as it ages. The wines still show brightness and fruit, acid and even tannin with notes of dried rose petals, dried cranberries and herbs. “One of the reasons they age so well is that they are never exposed to oak, they never oxidize. We get it into the bottle really fast with some fermentation character still in it,” said Redford.

Comparable vertical collections, handpicked by the winemaker, have sold at auction for $500 to $1000.
