Item Description
Born and raised in the historic Jackson Ward of Richmond, Virginia, Sir James Thornhill is a gifted American artist and photographer. A product of Richmond City Schools, he attended Open High School with an emphasis on art and screen printing. James has studied various art forms and media which include photography, water color and oriental painting. He refined the technical aspects of his craft at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond Technical Center and John Tyler Community College.
His community involvement includes mentoring and teaching visual arts to inner city youth enrolled in the Arts 180 program in Richmond. He partners with the Juvenile Justice Department to work with children in challenging circumstances, helping them to re-create themselves through art. James is also an aviation artist with the US Air Force Art Team. A devoted naturalist, he shows his loyalty to the environment by using earth respecting products in the creative process.
