Item Description
Binford Middle School sixth grade art students came up with this concept, inspired by the art of John Biggers, for their door to symbolize learning and growth. Two students posed for the silhouette, showing their hands connecting each other as learners. The tree is a symbol for growth and the light is a symbol for knowledge.
In 2015 Binford Middle School in Richmond, Virginia, celebrates its 100 year anniversary as a learning institution. Last year, the school adopted a new learning model based on arts integration, where core teachers are trained to use the arts in their teaching to enrich their content and connect students to learning.
