Short Bio

Harry Saltzman is one of those rare native New Yorkers whose has spent his entire creative life in the city of his birth. Professor Emeritus at Brooklyn College, who, during his 37 year’s tenure, conducted the College Chorus, Chorale, Chamber Chorus, Collegium Musicum, and the Conservatory Orchestra. In 1968 he founded the Sine Nomine Singers, a chamber chorus that was in the forefront of the early music movement. With the Sine Nomine Singers Baroque Orchestra, they presented the first U.S. performance with period instruments of Handel’s oratorios Jephtha, Theodora, Hercules, The Choice of Hercules, Alexander’s Feast, and Israel in Egypt (complete three part version.)

Vocal Coaching

I know what conductors look for when auditioning singers for roles in baroque opera and oratorio, and can give you the tools to sing in an exciting and stylistically correct manner. I have worked with singers at all levels of experience, from the opera singer who wants to perform a great Messiah for his or her church job, to the baroque specialist who wants to refine his or her ornamentation. For the non-specialist, specific attention is paid to a few basic principles, so that what you learn while coaching any recitative or aria can be applied to all baroque works you perform in the future.
