Alan Gegax is the Desert Companion outdoors writer and VegasHikers chief.  He has spent more than 25 years hiking and guiding in the Desert Southwest, and wants to share his love of the outdoors with you!

Winners will have their choice of destination.  Recommended destinations include the following:

The Raintree, a hike at Mt. Charleston to a 3,000 year old bristlecone pine.  The descent from The Raintree will be via Wild Horse Canyon, a little known and impressively scenic alternative to the North Loop.

Fire Canyon, Alan's single favorite hiking destination in Southern Nevada. Fire Canyon  is a maze of slot canyons at Valley of FIre State Park. This hike will be a loop that features rock scrambling and goes over, under, and through a variety of striking red rock formations where few people have ever been.  Fire Canyon is fully customizable to your fitness and ability level.

Top of the World Arch, a newly discovered route to a large arch on top of a mountain at Valley of Fire.  This hike is not especially dangerous, but it does have some vertigo inducing heights.  Don't worry, we won't get too close to any ledges.  On the way to the arch, we'll hike on some ridiculously colorful sandstone and ascend via a wash with a handful of additional hidden arches.

Gold Strike Hot Springs, a series of pools in a deep canyon just downriver form the Hoover Dam.  This hike requires some fun climbs that, with a little help, most anyone can overcome.  For more adventure, beyond the main pools the canyon continue all the way to the Colorado River through some challenging and incredibly rewarding terrain. 

Also included is a personal consultation to determine which hike is best for you (and your group).  If you have specific destination you've been wanting to see, or want a hike perfectly tailored to your abilities and desires, a completely custom hiking experience is available.  See restrictions below.

Restrictions: 

• Reservations for Sunday hikes must be made two weeks in advance. Reservations for other days should be made at least three weeks in advance.  Not all midweek will be available, but I will make every effort to accommodate your schedule.  
• Group size is limited to the winner and five (5) guests.  
• Customized hike must take place in Clark County, be accessible by passenger car, and be no more than 10 miles or six (6) hours in duration, whichever is less.  I will be happy to pick you up in the Las Vegas Valley and drive for you and up to three friends.  
• You must provide your own basic hiking equipment (shoes/boots, snacks, water, backpack, etc.).
