Item Description
Certificate good for four tickets for Portland Players 2015-2016 season.
The Portland Players is the oldest community theatre in Maine and the second oldest known in New England. Founded in 1931, as the Portland Dramatic Guild, we have continually produced some of the finest productions in Southern Maine.
March 25 - April 10, The Crucible by Arthur Miller tells the story about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem. The story focuses upon a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife's arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie—and it is here that the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly depicted. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned with a host of others.
May 20 - June 5, Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party is set in the Roaring Twenties, The Wild Party tells the story of one wild evening in the Manhattan apartment shared by Queenie and Burrs, a vaudeville dancer and a vaudeville clown. In a relationship marked by vicious behavior and recklessness (mirroring the time in which they live), they decide to throw a party to end all parties. Capturing the sound of a bygone era with a nod to the present one, Lippa makes us realize that moral decadence is not only limited to our past.
