Item Description
The Children's Discovery Museum in Augusta provides an array of exhibits and activities that promote developmental skills including social, cognitive, problem solving and peer interaction. Our environment creates an interactive community in which hands on learning is provided through play.
Our work within the museum reaches children 6 months to 8 years of age, as well as their families and caregivers.
- The museum’s Touch Tank is filled with a variety of sea creatures, straight out of Maine’s coastal waters! Hold animals like sea stars, crabs and sea urchins and take a closer look at our baby lobster! The Tank is opened every day at 12:00am and the animals are fed Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- In the Pizza Kitchen children learn all about the restaurant world – from taking orders to preparing and serving creative meals for their customers.
- As kids climb the Tree House they learn about animals in their own habitats and about our states most wonderful resource, our land. They learn about all of the wonderful animals that live in our area including the many different species of birds.
- Other exhibits include a grocery store, a bank, a theater and a "zen den" where children needing a break from all the excitement can relax on the comfy couch, grab a book, or listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean while soaking in the calming ions of our Himalayan salt lamp. A favorite spot for our friends on the autism spectrum, as well as nursing mommies.
