Item Description

Robert Parker calls DuMol "one of the superstar wineries of the entire California North Coast". DuMOLs 2012 Russian River Syrah ranked as the #30 Overall Best wine in the world, as well as the #1 Syrah on the Wine Spectator's Top 100. And Winemaker Andy Smith says the 2013 will be even better:

"It’s a challenge to follow up such a magnificent Syrah vintage as 2012 but I believe our 2013 bottlings actually surpass their immediate predecessor – I think this is our finest set of Syrah wines to date. Our farming, the climate, California’s ongoing drought and additional vine maturity all combined to produce grapes that were the most promising I’ve ever seen."

2013 Syrah tasting notes

Opaque, ruby–purple color; Full spectrum of red, black and blue fruit aromas with wild flowers, anise, dried herb and fresh cut-grass notes. Plum, black raspberry and cassis entry then bay leaf, sage and cocoa powder complexity. Forward mouth feel, volume and breadth. Deep plush fruitiness and a complex forest floor/soil quality. Firm and tightly- coiled structure with crisp apple-skin acidity on the lingering back end. Decant for an hour in its youth.

2013 Pinot Noir tasting notes

Classic coastal hi-toned Pinot aromas: Bing cherry, fresh strawberry jam, rose petal, complex grassy/herbal elements, anise and evergreen. Real beauty to the wine, subtle and tightly coiled. Expands, darkens and deepens in the glass – violet, black tea and black cherry. Volume builds with layers of flavor and texture. Crisp apple skin finish with lingering bergamot complexity.

About DuMol

DuMol was established in 1996 by Kerry Murphy and Michael Verlander. Andy Smith joined as winemaker in 2000 and partner in 2005. Most of the grapes are sourced from the Green Valley appellation where DuMOL has a 25-acre Estate Vineyard, with other grape sources originating in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Carneros. Since the beginning, DuMol has striven to make well balanced wines. Known for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnays, they also do small amounts of Syrah and Viognier.

DuMOL fashions three noteworthy Syrahs which probably receive less attention than they should because of the winery’s high visibility and credibility for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir," according to Robert Parker, who scored the 2012 vintage 94 points in December, 2014. DuMol wines, made by winemaker Andy Smith, are consistently a hit with Wine Spectator and Antonio Galloni, as well.
