Item Description
Our 2009 Cab Franc made number 4 on the list of Exquise Magazine's 10 MUST-TRY CULT WINES AND WINES FOR THE ENTHUSIAST.
Tasting Notes:
In the glass, a beautiful, full garnet color with only the slightest fading at the edges. On the nose, big black cherry and blackberry, with hints of blueberry, licorice, pepper, spice, and leather, and slight undertones of wood, earth, plum, and dried violet, though the latter are somewhat masked by the residual alcohol. Shows same on the palate with additional smoky notes. Smooth upon entry, with a mellow, rounded mouthfeel, medium body, medium+ acidity, and a medium to long finish. Tannins are present but not overwhelming. Textured, layered, and delicately structured, this is a delicious wine, especially for fans of the varietal. This wine will age nicely over the next 5-7 years.
Pairings:
Grilled steak and burgers, bbq tri-tip, herb marinated (especially rosemary, sage, and garlic) skirt steak, Dijon and coriander crusted lamb chops, lamb burgers with caramelized onions, blue cheese, and roasted garlic-rosemary aioli (see Spirit Horse recipe), grilled Portobello mushrooms, roasted root vegetables, and, out on a limb, even tandoori chicken. Desserts featuring dark chocolate and red berry sauces. Cheeses include aged or smoked cheddar and gouda, light gorgonzola and blues, and Havarti.
