Item Description
Title & Artist: "CeramiCod" – by Ursina Amsler
Medium & Size: Clay. 22" L x 9" H x 4" D. For indoor or outdoor display. Should be brought indoors in winter to prevent exposure to extreme cold.
Artist Statement: I was so inspired by last year's cods and the variety of media that were used! Fellow artist Kirsten Bassion's clay cod from last year inspired me to toss out that wood base altogether. I do a ceramic fish plaque lesson with my 7th graders, so I just supersized the concept and used the wood cod as a template for shaping purposes. My cod is sculpted from Laguna white clay, and the indented patterns were created using everything from nails and screws to pen caps and shaped beads. The glazes are from Mayco's "Elements" low-fire line. This fish can be displayed indoors or outdoors, but I recommend hibernating him for winter so he's not exposed to extreme cold.
