Item Description
Title & Artist: "Un Pescado y Meditación" – by Tali Minelli
Medium & Size: Yarn on wood. 21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D. For indoor display only.
Artist Statement: I have been fascinated by folk art for as long as I can remember. The history and traditions surrounding the art add depth and meaning. I try to share these explorations as I teach, and I am inspired as I create. The Huichol are a native people of western Mexico, known for their intricate and vibrant yarn paintings. Originally based in ritual religious practices, yarn votive objects were created by the artist as an offering to the gods; meditation, prayer, and artmaking interwoven. Today, more complex yarn paintings are made commercially, preserving this traditional indigenous art form.
Artist Biography: Tali Marcus Minelli was born in Jerusalem, Israel. She came to the United States as a child with her family for a sabbatical. As these things happen, the planned year turned into five, and while the rest of the family returned to Israel, Tali remained in the U.S. to complete her B.S. in Graphic Design at the University of Cincinnati. There she met her husband of 28 years, Mark Minelli. After graduation, they relocated to the Boston area to pursue their careers in Graphic Design, and then moved up the coast to Marblehead to start a family.
Today, Tali is the proud mother of three almost-grown children—Ari, Maia, and Noa. She is the founder and primary instructor at ThinkArt and is a published author of a children's art activity book. Tali divides her time between family, work with her husband at his mission-driven Boston firm, Minelli, Inc., and mentoring students at ThinkArt, her art studio in Marblehead.
Hosting Business: "Un Pescado y Meditación" is on display at Java Sun, 35 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, MA.
