About Anne Curtis
“I find myself drawn to the intrinsic qualities the flow of color within a piece of wood as it transitions from heart to sap wood or as it flows naturally within a tree. While nature tends to be random, I often work to create symmetry like a reflection of a landscape in a pond by taking a few pieces with interesting character gluing them together and then sawing them in half immediately gluing the mirror images created face up back together. Then I sand the pieces until they shine like glass. Another body of my work is more random and flows with curves to create functional yet whimsical twists and turns to what would normally be mundane. While the process is extremely labor-intense I find it magical. Much like Forrest Gumps box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get! And this is what makes the repetitive process exciting yet therapeutic. With any luck others feel it too as they view and touch my completed works.”
