Item Description
The cabin is an old log home built in the 1920s.
It is cozy, relaxed, and charmingly refurbished with quirky art, vintage quilts and cute Colorado western themed details. The home is perfectly located in the heart of a cute, historic little town called Minturn. Minturn is located between Vail & Beaver Creek. The town is tucked back, just a short way off of I70. The cabin itself is perfectly located - right on Main Street and close to all of the town's fun restaurants, bars and parks. Everything in town is easy walking distance from the cabin!
The cabin sleeps 12-15 people (perfect for a few small families to share or one mid/large sized group of friends. We are a pet friendly home - we have two dogs and love to bring them with us up to the cabin, so feel free to bring a canine family member along with you. Adults will love the hot tub, indoor wood-burning fireplace, big outdoor BBQ smoker/grill, fenced front yard, detached garage for parking, lovely views of the rocks and cliffs around it, and close proximity (only one street away) to the Eagle River, which in summer you can hear flowing along riotously behind the house.
Several rooms in the house are decorated and set up with kids specifically in mind. There are tidy stacks of board games, bins of LEGOs/dollhouse toys/Hot Wheels sets/wooden train sets/craft supplies/etc. tucked away under the bunkbeds in one of the downstairs bedrooms. Down in the old stone basement off of the kitchen, kids will find a clothes rod jammed full of dress-up clothes & costumes as well as accompanying baskets full of accessories and enough "toy weapons" to keep imaginative kids happily occupied while the grownups BBQ, read or just lounge out in the hammocks on the front porch.
There are also several large TVs, two video game nooks (PlayStation 3 & games upstairs and Xbox One with more games downstairs), Netflix, Apple TV, and high speed wifi.
For families with older kids (or for someone wanting to book a "guys/adults only trip", there are excellent hiking trails just minutes from the front door (including a gorgeous 2 mile hike up to a hidden lake at the north end of town). The Eagle River is also just one block behind the house and the stretch of river running along Minturn has reportedly some of the best fly fishing in the state. And don't forget nearby Vail Village and Beaver Creek - where there is a summer time coaster, ropes course, golfing, soccer fields, and much more!!
For more adventurous crowds - there are mountain biking trails leading into Minturn accessible from Vail and Minturn both. There are also great off-roading trails along Independence Pass south of Minturn. And just a few miles up the Eagle River there are some amazing class 3/class 4 river rapids that locals and visitors alike love to run in the summer and early fall. (For more details on this - there is an excellent, Edwards based kayak company called Alpine River Outfitters that we highly recommend for those needing gear and/or guides). For experienced kayakers, there are several great put in points right in town that access the big rapids south of Minturn.
Things to do in Minturn: On Wednesday nights, Minturn typically has live music at a few of the restaurants along Main Street, as well as weekly free concerts/performances by local bands down at the large stage in the Minturn park. For these live music events, people often bring food to BBQ at the park as well as blankets to sit on, while kids splash in shallow parts of the river and race around the playground next to the stage. (This park is about 5-7 minute walk from the cabin, down Main Street at the south end of town).
Another fun, family event to check out, are the weekly drive-in movie(s) held throughout the summer and fall - typically on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday nights.
Also, be sure to check out the charming, Saturday morning farmers' market - where local venders and artists sell their artisan goods in open air booths and stalls - the farmers market is set up just 3-5 minutes walk back up Main Street.
