Item Description

We've assembled a selection of wines from the years that our children at Las Lomitas and La Entrada were born, 2003-2011. Many of these can no longer be purchased in stores. Get them now while you still can! A perfect gift to save for your child when they turn 21, or a nice bottle for you to celebrate their graduation or other special event.

This item is one 1.5L bottle (Magnum) of 2008 Far Niente Estate Bottled Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes

The 2008 Far Niente Chardonnay greets with aromas of ripe melon, fig and peach. A creamy and smooth entry leads to a rich midpalate, layered with ripe tropical fruit and toasted hazelnuts. The finish is long and mouthwatering with well-integrated toast and spice.

Far Niente Chardonnay has earned its reputation as one of the great white wines worthy of aging. The grapes are hand picked from the various estate vineyards and then hand sorted at the winery. Shortly after starting fermentation in stainless tanks, the must is racked into a high percentage of new French oak barrels. To assure proper development, the barrels are topped biweekly, allowing our wine to age gracefully on its yeast lees for eight months. The winemaker evaluates each barrel for quality and style before it may be included in the blend.

Vineyard Notes

Far Niente Chardonnay is a blend of superlative Napa Valley vineyards, many of which are located in a little-known area called Coombsville, a cool growing region nestled in the rolling countryside and protected by the hills east of the city of Napa. Coombsville offers the characteristic climate of Carneros, with less wind, along with deeper, well-drained gravelly loam and volcanic ash soils. The combination of these spectacular vineyards results in the subtle, tropical flavors, complex aromas and uncommon richness that we have long associated with Far Niente Chardonnay.
