Skip the line and enroll early for the Young Inklings creative writing class next Spring at Las Lomitas.
In this class, your (1st-3rd grade) child will play their way to the page!
Society of Young Inklings’ unique methodology uses active improvisational games to inspire young writers in the creation of original stories. When you’re the author, your story can take you any place you can dream up. In this class, students will create a short story that takes place in at least two spectacular settings.
Students will explore the essential elements of story: character, setting, plot, beginnings, endings, conflict, word choice and sensory description.This class is designed to inspire and challenge young writers based on their unique needs and skill level. Group instruction during each session deepens students understanding of story development. During writing time, instructors circulate to individualize the learning process for each student.
Each young writer receives a workbook and journal. Writers will have an opportunity to share their masterpieces with family and friends on the last day of class.
Classes are held weekly for an hour after school, with a maximum size of 15 students.
More about the teacher, Jena Brigantino
Jena grew up playing outdoors in central California where she dreamed up stories featuring animals. Jena wishes she had the opportunity to take an Inklings class as a child. She strives to extend the opportunity to as many children as possible. Jena began working with Society of Young Inklings as an intern in 2010. She holds a B.A in Creative Arts and a minor in Education from San Jose State University. She also holds units in Early Childhood Development. She’s worked with children of all ages teaching dance, theatre arts, and creative writing classes. Jena loves collaborating with such a creative team at SYI.
