Item Description

Skip the line and enroll early for the after-school Chorus & Singing Games class this Fall at Las Lomitas.

The Kodaly concept of music education provides a fun, intuitive and embodied path to excellent musicianship.  Zoltan Kodaly believed that every child deserves a great music education, regardless of their talent, social class or other factors. He felt that children should learn high quality music and have a great time learning it.  We love to bring his fun and intuitive philosophy to children.  Through folk songs, dances and singing games, children play while they learn essential concepts of musicianship, starting with beat, rhythm and basic solfège, and moving up to more advanced concepts such as  keys, key signatures, melodic dictation and listening skills. Children who learn this way easily gain the skills needed to be excellent musicians.

The class meets weekly for one hour and is open to students in grades 1-3. Maximum 20 students.

Instructor Biography: Emily’s passion is bringing the joy of music and the skills needed for success to people of all ages. She loves helping students achieve their musical goals and develop themselves as performers and musicians.

Emily holds a BA in French from Oberlin, an MA in Interdisciplinary Art from San Francisco State and a Certificate in Kodály Music Education from Holy Names University. She has sung and soloed with numerous groups, including: Tanglewood Festival Chorus and Coro Allegro in Boston; San Francisco Bach Choir, Pacific Mozart Ensemble, and Goat Hall Productions. As a member of the Grammy-nominated Pacific Mozart Ensemble, she performed in Carnegie Hall, singing with the ensemble and soloing as part of the celebration of 40 years of Meredith Monk’s music. She currently sings with the award-winning women’s sextet, Solstice.
