2013 Turley, Hayne Vineyard, Napa Valley
The Hayne Vineyard is one of our most exceptional sites. Located in an idyllic warm yet breezy spot on the west side of St. Helena, we are honored to have worked with this vineyard and the Hayne family for over twenty years. The head- trained, dry-farmed Zinfandel vines were planted in 1902 and 1903, and they produce wines of power and elegance in every vintage. Year after year, this wine serves as the archetype for Zinfandel and Napa Valley.
2012 Three Wine Co. Live Oak, Contra Costa County
The Live Oak was planted in 1885 by Italian immigrants. This vineyard is known for its massive concentration, silken texture and signature core of luscious boysenberry fruit.
The Live Oak vineyard is made up of predominately Zinfandel vines but is a field blend with Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane, Mataro, and Black Malvoisie. The wine is dark black and blue color to the edge, with boysenberry, violets, supple tannins and perfect acidity. The wine shows staggering ancient vine concentration with a briary density and silken chewiness with a velour-like texture which is classic Live Oak.
2012 Terra d'Oro Deaver Vineyard, Amador County
Vineyard Notes: The Deaver Vineyard has a horseshoe-shaped ridge that runs though the vineyard, with a swale in the middle of that horseshow. That swale produces a crop that is harvested separately due to the soil depth yielding different complexities in the fruit. The wines are al head trained which has been most effective with Zinfandel because it gives the fruit excellent sun exposure.
Clonal Information: This vineyard is one of the original plantings in Amador County and the vines have served as the parent cuttings for a majority of other vineyards in the region. The Deaver acreage is iconic when discussing Amador Zinfandel, as it continues to produce rich fruit with amazing concentration, character and Shenandoah spice.
Soil Notes: The soil on the ridge of this field is very shallow and rocky, with lots of clay in it and a large iron component, which is a characteristic of many Shenandoah Valley vineyards.
2012 Rock Wall Wine Co., Jesse's Vineyard, Contra Costa County
Cherry pie, toasty caramel and pipe tobacco aromas lead to layered flavors of black raspberry, sage, black tea and spicy cinnamon.
2012 Peterson Winery, Tradizionale, West Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
West Vineyard is a 90+year-old dry-farmed, head-trained Zinfandel vineyard located on a hillside in the southeast corner of Dry Creek Valley. A traditional field-blend vineyard; a small portion is planted with mixed black varieties such as Petite Sirah, Carignane and Mourvedre, along with a few white grape varieties.
Tasting Notes
Seductive aromatics of bright brambly berry with hints of dusty tannins and vanillin oak. Vine-ripened wild blackberries mixed with dark cherry, plum, black raspberry and more. Threads of fresh baking spices weave through the luscious berry goodness adding even more complexity. Integrated oak and good acidity balance the fruit and lend a solid structure to the wine.
2013 Bedrock Wine Co., The Bedrock Heritage, Sonoma Valley, Red Wine
Planted 1888: Always the wine closest to my heart, the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine comes my family’s old vineyard in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Planted between 1888 and 1895 and composed of over 22 interplanted varieties, the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine is the wine that I started the winery to make. The piece of rock strewn red clay soils produced a wine of citrus-tinged red fruits and spice. I hope this wine speaks as much to the vineyard as to the varieties from which it is composed- which of course is the point. Composed of roughly 55% Zinfandel, 30% Carignane, with the balance being the many other varieties scattered throughout the vineyard.
The Wine Advocate, 93-95 points
The 2013 Proprietary Red Bedrock Vineyard Heritage comes from the Peterson family’s old vines planted between 1888 and 1895. Amazingly, there are over 22 interplanted varieties in this vineyard, with the bulk of it being 55% Zinfandel and 30% Carignane. The balance of 15% is composed of the other 20 varietals. There are 750 cases of this spectacular wine. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by notes of black raspberries, roasted Provençal herbs, pepper, strawberry jam, kirsch and blacker fruits. Full-bodied, heady, savory, broad and expansive, this fabulous wine showcases the remarkable blending and winemaking skills of
2012 Dutcher Crossing, Maple Vineyard, Bill's Block, Dry Creek Valley
Dutcher Crossing has been producing some of Dry Creek's most compelling Zins. The Maple Vineyard challenges winemakers to harness the potent alcohol levels almost always found in the wines. This bottling has major alcohol, but it somehow works. The wine is big and warming, but not hot, and contains no overripeness. It's a spicy, fruity, full-bodied wine that will pair magnificently with barbecue.

2012 Puccioni Vineyards, Old Vine, Dry Creek Valley
The grapes for this wine were sourced from 100-year-old vines at the Puccioni Ranch that were planted by our great-grandfather. This wine is ready to be enjoyed today, but can be aged for a few years.
