Tasting Notes

A perception of richness immediately comes forward on the nose of the 2014 Special Reserve Grandpère. The warm temperatures through the growing season produced a wine with power that also exudes elegance and restraint. Blackberry pie, cedar and fresh fig are found on the nose and on the palate. This iconic wine is vibrant and texturally enticing, showcasing flavors that remind one of ripe summer berries, cocoa powder and stone fruits like plum and apricot. Another very cellar worthy candidate in our portfolio, ready to drink now, it will also age gracefully for the next 10 years.

2014 Jack Rabbit Flat Vineyard, Amador County

Tasting Notes

This robust yet opulent wine is sourced from the famous 103 year old, dry farmed vineyard known as Jack Rabbit Flat. Simply iconic, this old vine Zinfandel is as complex as they come. On the nose you are greeted by sophisticated aromas of black cherry, raspberry, clove and tobacco. Bold vitality and richness are complimented by flavors boysenberry, blueberry, cedar and thyme. The fruit notes weave together seamlessly with the ultra-fine tannic structure and acidity making this a supremely balanced wine. Drink now through 2022.

2014 Story Vineyard, Amador County

Tasting Notes

From the prestigious 101 year old Story Vineyard, this is a stunning showcase of classic old vine Zinfandel. Grown in shallow, iron rich soil on the northern edge of Amador County, these vines produce voluptuous and complex wines. An alluring bouquet of red currant and lush cherry grows in complexity with secondary aromas of fresh thyme and black pepper. Red fruit driven, this wine exhibits vivacious flavors blackberry jam, wild raspberry and strawberry with seductive undertones of Macadamia nut, coffee bean and chocolate covered cherries. The silky tannins balance perfectly with the vibrant acidity to create a long, elegant finish. A wine of considerable depth and structure, it will continue to improve with cellaring. Drink 2018 through 2026.

 

2014 Sea of Grapes Vineyard, Amador County

Tasting Notes

Sourced from the famed Fox Creek Vineyards, the 2014 Sea of Grapes Vineyard Zinfandel is truly complex and mesmerizing reflecting the vineyard’s consistency for more than five decades. Black Mission fig, milk chocolate, and black cherry all greet you immediately on the nose, while fresh oregano, white pepper and nutmeg are enticing in the background. This remarkable Zinfandel erupts with dark plum, ripe blackberry, and warm baking spices seamlessly woven together on the palate balanced with mouthwatering acidity. The plush tannins and well-structured texture of this wine do not go unnoticed as you are drawn through a remarkable finish. This energetic and vibrant wine will age beautifully for years to come. Best decanted for one hour prior to enjoying. Drink now through 2025.
