Item Description

Point Reyes National Seashore Association is delighted to partner with Straus Home Ranch and with Chris "Mr. Science" Giorni for a Point Reyes National Seashore adventure for up to ten people (ages 4 and up encouraged).

First, your base will be the historic Straus Home Ranch; there's simply no other place like this in all of West Marin -- a beautifully renovated 150+ year old farmhouse, on 166 certified organic acres, near the town of Marshall. A $1,000 security deposit is required.

About a one-hour drive up the coast from San Francisco, this stretch of Highway 1 is still remarkably serene and peaceful. The Staus family has been farming here since 1941 and it is still a working ranch, including heifers ("teenager" cows) grazing in the fields behind the house. You can walk from the house to a small beach for tide pooling or to launch your kayak.

Once you're settled in, join biologist and naturalist Chris Giorni, Head Frog at Tree Frog Treks, on a four-hour guided hike from Limantour Beach to Coast Camp, through coastal scrub and creeks to the sea and tide pools, back again. Great for kids and families! The hike is about 5 miles in length.

Chris Giorni is an acclaimed outdoor leader in the Bay Area and is an instructor at our Point Reyes National Seashore Association Field Institute. He is a professional biologist and the founder of Tree Frog Treks in San Francisco. With over 20 years of teaching experience he is the science guy who is comfortable working with young children and adults alike. Chis has worked with the California Academy of Sciences, Strybing Arboretum, San Francisco Recreation and Parks, Bay Area Discovery Museum, Ashland Science Works Museum and Point Reyes National Seashore Association. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from University of California Berkeley and a Master's Degree in Biology from San Francisco State University.

The winning bidder will also receive, courtesy of the Point Reyes National Seashore Association Bookstores, one copy of "Natural History of the Point Reyes Peninsula" by Jules Evens.

This is a perfect family outing, unique birthday party idea or just a fun way to explore the park, bid today!
