Invite up to 9 friends or family members to join you in exploring one of the great restoration successes of Point Reyes National Seashore, and stay awhile for two nights at the historic Point Reyes Lifeboat Station!

Join biologist and Science at the Seashore Program Manager Leslie Adler-Ivanbrook and naturalist Sharon Barnett for an adventure into the Giacomini Wetland to learn about the restoration and the natural ecosystem that continues to mature since the project was completed in 2008.

Plus, set up your base camp for this exciting and educational park adventure for families and kids of all ages for two nights at the former U.S. Coast Guard Lifeboat Station, at Chimney Rock and near the Point Reyes Lighthouse.

This is a perfect Giacomini Wetland hike - an easy walk in the wetlands - for families and adults interested in learning both about the wetland and how Point Reyes National Seashore Association, the park's official non-profit partner, uses this outdoor classroom to introduce children to nature, scientific inquiry, and career paths in conservation.

With waterproof footwear provided for everyone, you'll descend into the wetland, explore plants and animals that flourish there, and experience about how it is used as a natural outdoor study site for visiting school groups.

The Point Reyes Lifeboat Station is a National Historic Landmark overlooking beautiful Drakes Bay. It is the last remaining example of a rail-launched lifeboat station that was common on the Pacific coast. Located at Chimney Rock, the Lifeboat Station was built in 1927 by the U.S. Coast Guard and contains the crew's quarters, a large boat bay, and a marine railway system for launching a 36-foot life boat.

The ground floor houses the boat bay museum where a renovated motor boat is located.

The area around the Lifeboat Station is used by the Marine Mammal Center as a release site for rehabilitated wildlife. While staying here some classes are unexpectedly treated to the release of an otter or harbor seal.

Leslie Adler-Ivanbrook manages Point Reyes National Seashore Association's Science at the Seashore program which features hands-on science education field trips for elementary, middle & high school students. Sharon Barnett, a principal in Marin Nature Adventures, is passionate about sharing her knowledge and sense of wonder with others, especially children. Known to many children as "Sharon heron," she has been teaching environmental education for more than 10 years.

Funds from the Dinner on the Pacific Plate Auction support important park preservation and environmental education projects at Point Reyes National Seashore, located just 90 minutes northwest of San Francisco on the Marin County coast. All winning bids made above fair market value are tax-deductible.

This package includes:

(1) Giacomini Wetlands excursion for up to 10, including children ages 8 and up, with Leslie Adler-Ivanbrook and naturalist Sharon Barnett. Trip is tide-, weather- and staff-dependent. Low tides may fall on mid-week or on the weekend, and auction winner must schedule tour within two weeks of auction close with Ms. Adler-Ivanbrook. Rain cancels the event and it will be rescheduled.
