Item Description
Join Dr. Ben Becker, marine ecologist and director of the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center at Point Reyes National Seashore, for the ultimate tidepool experience. Invite up to seven family members and friends to join you on this half-day customized seashore learning experience. Great for kids and families!
You'll explore one of the largest and least visited rocky intertidal sites in Marin county, near Bolinas Point. Ben will guide your guests along the rocky intertidal zone, where you will learn about the incredible diversity of animal and plant life and how special adaptations allow them to thrive in this extreme habitat.
During the spring low-tide is your group's best chance to see sea anemones, purple sea urchins, sea stars, colorful sea slugs and tiny crabs that live in this hidden world. Ben will also discuss current monitoring and research programs that are helping to track oil spill impacts and global climate change.
This auction package includes copies of "Fylling's Illustrated Guide to Pacific Coast Tide Pools" by Marni Fylling, a scientifically accurate yet utterly charming field guide to the Pacific coast intertidal zone with full-color illustrations to help tide poolers with easy identification, and the gorgeously illustrated "Plankton: Wonders of the Drifting World" by Christian Sardet, courtesy of the Point Reyes National Seashore Association Bookstore at Drakes Beach.
Plus, you will enjoy use of the Historic Coast Guard Station Chief's House at Chimney Rock for two nights for up to 8 people.
Invite up to seven guests to join you for a rare and special two-night retreat at the Chief's House, former residence of the U.S. Coast Guard lifesaving station chief, recently renovated with six bedrooms and one master bedroom, one bathroom, living room, and equipped kitchen. You and your guests can unwind and relax for two days and nights in this cozy two-story retreat set amidst old trees overlooking Drakes Bay.
