Item Description
This professionally framed art print measures 9.5" x 8", in a 17.25" x 15.5" frame.
The title is: Trois esquisses de maternités (Three Sketches on the Theme of Motherhood)
This work is a fascinating glimpse into the figural studies and artistic techniques of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. They are seemingly three, distinct scenarios each of the same mother and child. The most prominent scene is in the foreground on the left, where we see her nursing her young baby. The instance on the right, the child is slightly older and is situated upon her mother’s knee. In the background we can vaguely make out a rough sketch of our subjects which has been interpreted as an unfinished study of another phase of maternité (or, motherhood). The heliogravure technique allows for a delicate softness and subtlety in shading unlike any other intaglio print process; it is a beautifully etched print in very good condition with a bold, dark impression.
This print was given to the donor by the father of her child on the occasion of the child's birth.
