Item Description
Invite up to three family members or friends to join you for two nights on Tomales Bay in Inverness at Dancing Coyote Beach Cottages, and invite up to 5 people on your very own customized geology tour of Point Reyes National Seashore with geologist John Karachewski.
Discover the complex and interesting geology of Point Reyes or another Bay Area location on this custom field trip for up to six participants. John will plan and lead a custom 6-hour field trip to areas of interest and provide new insights into our beautiful and dynamic landscapes. Dates are flexible and will be confirmed after the auction. Logistics (transportation, meeting location, lunch, etc.) will also be confirmed before the trip.
The story of Point Reyes is truly a study in motion -- with slow, continental transformations and sudden, violent jolts that shake the Earth. Learn why the rocks of this craggy coast match those of the Tehachapi Mountains more than 310 miles to the south and how the discovery of plate tectonics helped geologists piece together the puzzle of Point Reyes.
John Karachewsi has conducted geology and environmental projects throughout the western United States from Colorado to Alaska and Midway Island. He received his Master's degree from Western Washington University and his doctorate from the Colorado School of Mines. He works for California EPA in Berkeley. In his spare time he enjoys taking photographs and teaching for Point Reyes National Seashore Association's Field Institute.
The winning bidder will also receive a copy of Geology of the San Francisco Bay Region, by Doris Sloan and photography by John Karachewski from the University of California Press to help you get better acquainted with our rich geologic history in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A perfect outing or gift for the geology buffs in your life. Rock our world and bid today!
