there once was a man...
jokeharmonica
!hey pedro!
Chris (jokeharmonica) and Peter (hey pedro!), the creative team at Piltdown Man Publishing, are doing unusual things with illustrated literature...it's different, it's innovative, and it has touched a number of people. “I believe Chris and I are on the cutting edge with our work: it's not your run-of-the-mill storybook...and it's an illustrated storybook for adults of all ages.”
With our first book (there once was a man...), we gave readings at Myers-Ganoung Elementary, Cholla High, Bentley's, Mostly Books, Revolutionary Grounds, Crave Coffee Bar, Gary's Place, and in the gardens at the Food Conspiracy (I adapted the book as a play for the evening).
Hope you had an opportunity to peruse ...and so... (a not so "color me" adventure) and read the "foreworded bookmark" describing how we created our storybook. It's a parody of sorts of the old "My Golden Books" we used to read when little...and a twist on the myth of Sisyphus.
Both are hand-lettered with paste up and layout also completed by hand. The illustrations in the first book (there once was a man...) were an amalgam of computer generated, mouse-drawn, hand-drawn, and collage images. Our newest, which I gave you today, ...and so..., is completely hand-rendered.
We are currently carried by Antigone Books, Mostly Books, Revolutionary Grounds, Petroglyphs, R-Galaxy, and the Pima County Public Library. We've connected with folks from 8 to 88...and have books in such far flung places as Hawaii, South Carolina, Georgia, Vermont, and the UAE.
